Scientific coordination of landmark books on climate, energy and system modelling

The Energy Technology Systems Analysis Program (ETSAP) is a Technology Collaboration Programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA) dedicated to advancing transparent, rigorous and sophisticated energy system modelling approaches for designing robust transitions toward a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future.

Eneris has coordinated and ensured the scientific quality of the four books published by ETSAP on the role of energy system modelling in informing energy and climate policy. These volumes examine how energy system modelling informs the transition to low carbon systems, provides guidance on the pathways to Sustainable Development Goals and remains relevant under conditions of rapid and profound transformation, including technological innovation, shifting policy priorities, security and geopolitical challenges, multidimensional environmental and social considerations.

Each book comprises 16 to 25 chapters authored by leading modelling teams across the ETSAP community and beyond. The first three volumes have reached almost 200 000 downloads, reflecting their value for researchers, policymakers and practitioners working on energy and climate transition.

The four books are:

– Aligning The Energy Transition with The Sustainable Development Goals (2024)
– Limiting Global Warming to Well Below 2 Degrees (2018)
– Informing Energy and Climate Policies Using Energy Systems Models (2015).
